Bb My foster mom calls me the "Hippy Pug," but my name is really BB. I am an 8 year old Peke. I am black and white which is not so common. I came from a puppy mill so I am very shy. I have learned that no one wants to hurt me so now I have started to play and show my foster home that I can enjoy myself. I am great with other dogs, cats, and children. I am good in the bath, and I am house-trained. My best friends here are pugs. I am really very ready for a home and family of my own. I am up-to-date on my shots, and I am spayed. Please pick me for your friend!

Borg Adoption Pending Fostered in Maryland. Hello; my name is Borg, and I am an 11 month old cutie-pie pug boy looking for my forever home. I am crate-trained, mostly house-trained, I walk well on a leash, and love other dogs of any shape and size. I have a little hitch in my step from an injury, but as long as my weight is kept under control, the vet thinks that I'll be just fine. It doesn't prevent me from jumping on the couch, running up and down the stairs, or chasing my foster brother and sisters. I am up-to-date on all of my shots and am microchipped. I am on medication for an infection right now, but I should be able to be neutered in 2-3 weeks and then I'll be ready for my forever home. I really am quite a catch; you better request me before I'm taken! I'll be packing my bags and waiting to hear from you.

Buffy Fostered in Radford, VA UPDATE FROM FOSTER HOME 02/22/2010: Hi there, ya’ll! Just wanted to check in and let you know how I was doing, and boy do I have some good news. I’ve been to the vet and I am very pleased to say that I did quite well. The vets and the vet techs said I was the best behaved, bravest, sweetest dog they’d had all year! I am now UTD on all of my vaccinations and I’m microchipped. They spayed me and cleaned my teeth really really well. I had to have 4 pulled, but they weren’t important ones so my ability to eat has not been affected in the slightest. Foster Mommy says that she doesn’t mind my kisses now that my breath doesn’t smell so horrendous. And here’s the best news: you know that fatty tumor that I had? It turns out that it’s NOT a too-mah. It was a hernia and they repaired it when they spayed me. I’ve recovered nicely and will be getting my stitches removed on March 3rd. After that, I’ll be ready to go to my forever home! Don’t get me wrong, I love my foster family and they love me, but we all know that it’s only a temporary arrangement. So get those applications in, folks. You won’t find a better girl than yours truly!
Hi there, folks! My name is Buffy, but my foster Mommy calls me Buff Stuff, and I’m 6 years old. I just wanted to take a bit of time to tell you my story. I was used as a breeder for the first five- and- a- half years of my life. When I wasn’t producing puppies so easily, my owners gave me away. The lady who they gave me to spent a week trying to housetrain me and ended up throwing me in the pound since I was “untrainable.' I was so happy when my foster Mommy broke me out of jail on New Year’s Eve. I was scheduled to be put down on New Year’s Day, and I was starting to get worried that no one would come to my rescue. Thankfully, the good folks at MAPR got wind of my situation and got me out of there at the last minute! Since I’ve come to my foster home, I’ve really blossomed, and I don’t understand why anyone would call me "untrainable." My foster Mommy says that I’m the smartest doggie that she’s ever trained. I had one potty accident in the house when I first got there, but since then, I’ve been such a good girl. I let someone know if I have to go potty and, if there’s no one around ,I happily go on newspapers or piddle pads. I’m still working on walking on a leash. I tend to circle around whoever is walking me and get them all tangled, but I don’t pull. I’m not at all obsessed with food like those butterball foster siblings of mine. Sometimes foster Mommy has to coax me into eating, and I’m so gentle when I take treats from her. I don’t understand what toys are, and I don’t really know how to play but I hope to find a forever home with someone who can teach me how to enjoy the finer things in life. Right now, my favorite thing to do is snuggle up to my people and get love. You see, I was a Mommy for so long that I want a break from it. I just want someone to mother me now. I really do enjoy being with my people, but I’m OK being left alone for a few hours. I am also a somewhat dominate girl so I’d do best in a household where I’m the queen bee or with laid back dogs that don’t really feel like stepping up to take charge of things. My favorite time of day is bedtime when I can crawl into bed with foster Mommy and my foster sister and get cuddles. As far as health, I seem to be in pretty good shape. Foster Mom says that I need to be spayed and have my teeth cleaned at the end of January, when I’m over this UTI and kennel cough. I also have a golf ball sized fatty tumor (don't let that scare you; I will be fine!) on my belly that needs to come out, but they will do that when they spay me. When I go in for my spay (whatever that is) I’ll also get my vaccinations and be microchipped. After that, I’ll be ready to go to my forever home. If I were you I’d get my application in quickly because I’m a real catch! Just remember, ask for Buffy (or Ms. Stuff if you’re so inclined). I’m ready to start living life to the fullest with YOU!

Cayce UPDATE--10/26/09---- On Friday, October 9th (my foster mom's 60th birthday), I ran head first into a bush and injured my left eye really badly. Since then, my mom and dad got rid of anything in our yard that could hurt me or my sister Pearl. The yard looks pretty bare, but it's safe. Of course my mom rushed me to the vet the day I got hurt. He did the best he could, but the next week, things a lot worse. I went back to the vet, and he told mom that there was nothing more he could do. He made an appointment with an animal eye clinic an hour away. The diagnosis was a Schirmer tear, and I went into surgery on october 15th. My surgery was called a conjunctival pedicle graft, extensive. I have to take three different pills two times a day and eye dropts every hour until I go back for my check-up. The vet bills and the surgery have been expensive for my foster parents and MAPR, so I really could use some pug angels to help me out. Please be an angel!
Hi my name is Casey and I'am a happy, healthy 10 year old male. I have been microchipped, neutered, and am up-to-date on all my vaccines. I get along really well with Pearl; she's my foster parents' black pug and my new best friend. We live on Lake Marion, and we love to go out on our dad's boat or just hang out in the back yard and fish. ( I have not caught one yet.) We like to go camping, and I love riding in my dad's big truck. Pearl and I stay busy playing with the children in our neighborhood, but our favorite thing to do is curl up on the sofa together for a long nap!

Chloe and Sophie Adoption Pending Fostered in Norfolk, Va area Hi, Sophie here, just wanted to let you know about me and my sister Chloe. Well, where to begin? Let’s see, we are 2 ½ year old fawn pugs and our foster parents say that we are absolutely beautiful. I’m sure our picture says it all. You may not be able to tell just by looking at it, but we are inseparable and I mean it, we are truly a bonded pair and we MUST be adopted together. When either Chloe is taken away from me, I don’t know what to do and will try to find her. It’s nice to know that Chloe does the same for me. . See, we’ve been in a few homes before being turned over to MAPR. Unfortunately our most recent owner was no longer able to support and care for us so our owner responsibly turned us over to MAPR. So far, things have been great. We’ve gotten plenty of food, water, and tender care. In return we spend our time snuggling up with our foster parents on the couch, the floor, or just about anywhere they go we like to be with them. The great thing is that we are house trained and although curious about things in the home, we politely leave things alone. If we need some outdoor potty time then we’ll politely let them know that we need to go outside. Want to know what else is great? Our foster family is not just our foster parents, but also some brothers and a sister. Boy do we get along with them. I think our foster parents love it too; we all just go outside in the backyard play with each other, do our business, and have a good time. Although not skittish about some noise, we would prefer a home that has a kind loving family that enjoys spending time with us. We sure do like to sit in laps, there’s nothing cozier. Sure we spend much of the day napping, after all a pug’s day is very exhausting, but we do like to be able to roam freely through the house. After my sister and I moved into our foster home we had the opportunity to go see the doctor. We didn’t seem to mind any part of the visit. There were so many new things to experience, and all we did was check out the area and wait to be seen, nothing to it. The vet, who was a nice man, said that we were doing well medically and physically. I weigh 19 pounds, and my sister weighs 13 pounds right now. The recent stress has brought on some temporary hotspots on her skin, but she’s turning around with the care she’s getting, and she is healing just fine. She is expected to gain more weight, too. The doctor did some tests on both of us and said that the 4DX test for heartworm, lyme, ehrlichia, and piroplasmasis was negative so we are heartworm free and he even gave us micro-chips, in case we get lost. All-in-all we are up-to-date with all of our vaccines, but Chloe will still needs to be spayed. So if you think that we would fit in with you and your family and you promise to provide the love and care we need, then please fill out your adoption application and get it in NOW asking for us, Chloe and Sophie, to be placed in your forever home. **WE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION IN APPX. APRIL TIME FRAME, TO GIVE CHLOE TIME TO RECOVER FROM HER SPAY, GAIN SOME WEIGHT, AND LET HER HOT SPOTS HEAL.**

![]() Become a Pug Angel today for Daisy (# 3). Just click "Donate" to the right! Adoption Pending FOSTERED IN OAK RIDGE, TN PICTURES COMING SOON!!! DAISY WAS NAPPING AND DID NOT WANT TO BE DISTURBED, SO A PHOTO SESSION HAS BEEN PLANNED FOR A LATER DATE Daisy is a 5 year old female that was brought to a local shelter as a stray. She's fawn, weighs about 17 lbs, and is recovering from demodex. She is not contagious, and she will have no lasting affects from her demodex mange. After almost a week she's eating well, growing new hair, and learning to be a pug. Daisy is very well mannered, and does well outside on or off leash. Her first few days at her foster home, she would just sit in her doggie bed in her own world. Now she's interested in what's going on around the house, and has even been seen playing! Like all pugs naps are a favorite past time on either the couch or bed. Daisy is slightly cold natured, so she has been wearing a fleece sweater during the day. She is being fostered with large and small dogs, and a few cats with no problems. Daisy needs a forever home where she can have plenty of love and attention to make her feel special.

Daisy(# 1) and Domino's angels are: Kris Mullins Elena Zimina- in loving memory of Yania Fostered in Maryland. They are two peas in a pod who crave attention and will follow you around like the "velcro" dogs that pugs are. Both of these pugs have been through so much and were in pretty rough shape when they came into MAPR. Their foster mom has taken great care of them and they're now ready to be adopted! Domino and Daisy are very active and will keep you busy. We also think Domino would do best with an experienced dog owner who can love him to pieces and make him feel secure. Daisy is, according to her foster mother, a complete "dream". Please consider welcoming this lovely pair into your home and your hearts and fill out an application requesting Domino and Daisy today!

Daisy(# 2) Medical Hold Being fostered in Richmond, VA I'm Daisy and I'm a lovable, petite 6 year old girl, weighing in at 14 pounds. I get along with everyone and love attention. I live with 4 pug siblings, and you would never know that we didn't all grow up together because I get along with them so well. I also love being around children. I'm not sure about cats. To my knowledge I haven't met one yet. I am completely housetrained, have great manners, and I can even shake your hand when we meet. As you can tell from my additional picture, my favorite place to be is on the back of the couch watching you. My past owners said that I have skin allergies and need to eat special food and not have any table snacks, but my new vet can't completely confirm that, so I'm going to stay on my special food just in case. I have pink skin which would also lead you to think I'm high maintenance, but again we aren't sure so, as a precaution, I get a few more baths than your regular pug. I’m a fabulous girl wanting to be the next beautiful flower in your garden. Everyone needs a Daisy in their life. Don’t you.

Dilly's angels are: Alexandra Miles Marivic Llacuna Sandra and Bob Fox in loving memory of Pugsy and Tessa In loving memory of Rocky Smartt Lisa and Daisy Wimpfheimer Vernon Hayes Irene Ferrainola Elizabeth Smartt in memory of Rocky Currently fostered in Chapel Hill
Update: January 14, 2010 Dilly has completed 12 weeks of treatment with Palladia (toceranib, a receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor). The mast cell tumors shrank to about half their original size during the first four weeks of therapy. The tumors have remained about the same for two months now. Dilly still has large pendulous tumors on her abdomen and other tumors on her legs and buttock area. Dr. Angie Kozicki, the veterinary oncologist who is caring for Dilly at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital, Cary, NC, is pleased with Dilly’s strong, partial response. At Dilly’s most recent visit (January 12, 2010), Dr. Kozicki discussed other treatment options for Dilly. There is no information as to whether adding a second chemotherapy agent will improve the amount or duration of response to Palladia. There is another receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, masitinib, which can be obtained under compassionate use protocol from France. There is no charge for the drug but it costs about $150 to have three months supply shipped from France. Dilly received another two months supply of the Palladia. The cost for treatment with Palladia will be about $140 a month. (Dilly gets 25 mg of Palladia on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.) So angels are really needed to help with the cost of treatment. One bit of news delighted Dilly, she will no longer need to get weekly blood work since her blood counts have remained stable. Dilly is mildly anemic but this had persisted since before her therapy with Palladia began. In the meantime, Dilly continues to take diphenhydramine 25 mg twice a day, famotidine 5 mg twice a day and prednisone 2.5 mg on the “off days.” Dilly has been to the Veterinary Specialty Hospital enough times now that she has made several friends including a yellow Labrador retriever who gets his chemo on the same day as Dilly’s appointments.
UPDATE-December 1, 2009 Dilly has completed 6 weeks of treatment with Palladia (toceranib, a receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor). The mast cell tumors shrank to about half their original size during the first four weeks of therapy. One especially large, firm mass has not changed since therapy began. Not much has happened to the tumors during the past two weeks. The veterinary oncologist at Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Cary is pleased with the fact that almost all of the tumors have gotten smaller, and some of the small tumors have disappeared. Dilly has no enlargement in her lymph nodes that can be palpated (felt) on physical examination. Dilly has tolerated the toceranib remarkably well. She never got sick to her stomach, and she never had any diarrhea. Dilly’s appetite is really good, and I think she may have put on a bit of weight. In addition to the toceranib, Dilly is receiving a small dose of prednisone on the Palladia “off” days as well as twice daily diphenhydramine and famotidine. Dilly is feeling well and today she was showing off an early Christmas present from a neighbor. She had a brand new blue Woolrich sweater which looked very sharp with her light fur and her red collar. Dilly greeted every dog and human that she saw while at the VSH. Of course, she went behind the desk and greeted all the receptionists. She even tried to greet the visiting cats, some of whom did not know quite what to think of this bouncy, friendly dog. As one gentleman said when Dilly greeted an elderly lab mix (receiving chemotherapy for his lymphoma), “Dilly certainly does not know a stranger. Everyone should be treated as a friend.” VSH still does not know what the cost of the Palladia will be after January 1, 2010. Dilly will not be going back to VSH until mid-January. In the meantime, Dilly will continue with her weekly check ups with Kay Bishop DVM in Durham. Angels are always appreciated to help pay for the necessary laboratory expenses. Dilly wants to greet everyone and wish them a joyous and peaceful Christmas season.
UPDATE FROM DILLY'S FOSTER MOM, OCTOBER 27, 2009!
ORIGINAL BIO.....
MAPR would like to introduce you to our very special foster --.Dilly. Dilly's story is one of the saddest we have seen, as her condition was 100% preventable had her former owners taken her to the vet years ago. Dilly was surrendered at 9 years old by the only family she had known. She came to us with what appeared to be tumors all over one side of her body. She has been evaluated, and her current status is below. Please keep in mind that her type of tumors usually start out as the size of a pencil eraser, and it has taken years of neglect for her to get in this condition. This did not appear overnight. Below is Dilly's current status and bio.
ATTENTION...EXTREMELY GRAPHIC PHOTOS IN THE "MORE PICS" SECTION. THESE SHOULD NOT BE VIEWED BY CHILDREN OR THOSE THAT ARE EASILY UPSET. THESE ARE PHOTOS OF THE TUMORS ON DILLY'S BODY. IT IS OUR HOPE THAT BY SHARING THESE PHOTOS OUR FRIENDS IN RESCUE WILL UNDERSTAND THE OVERWHELMING NEED THERE IS TO HELP THESE SWEET PUGS.
(Please note that that this bio was typed in all CAPS by the author with eyesight issues. She is not "yelling.)
DILLY WAS EVALUATED BY AND IS CURRENTLY BEING FOSTERED BY DR B. DILLY IS THE 9 YEAR OLD PUG WHO CAME TO US FROM SC. SHE HAD A MASSIVE GROWTH ALL THE WAY DOWN ONE SIDE; IT WAS SOMETHING MOST OF US HAD NEVER SEEN. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A HUGE MAST CELL TUMOR. DR B. DETERMINED THAT BECAUSE OF THE TUMOR'S CLOSE LOCATION TO THE VASCULAR SYSTEM, SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO REMOVE THE TUMOR. A VERY TRUSTED COLLEAGUE OF DR B. WAS RUNNING A CLINIICAL TRIAL THAT DILLY MAY QUALIFY FOR. IF ACCEPTED, THEY WILL EXCISE THE TUMOR FOR DILLY'S COMFORT, DO ULTRASOUNDS, CONTROL PAIN, ETC. SHE WILL GET THE CARE AND THE SURGERY DONE BY THE EXPERTS, AS A TEAM, WHO CAN HELP HER. THIS IS A TRIAL TO SEE HOW EFFECTIVE AN APPROVED DRUG WILL BE IN EXTREME CASES LIKE DILLY'S. REGARDLESS OF THE OUTCOME, THIS IS OUR ONLY CHANCE TO TRY AND SAVE HER LIFE.
IF ANYONE HAS A CONCERN OR COMMENT, PLEASE REPLY TO MARY AT MARY@MIDATLANTICPUGRESCUE.ORG SHE CAN EXPLAIN IN MORE DETAIL ABOUT THIS TYPE OF STUDY IF ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW MORE.

Elvis's angels are: Tina Arndt Fostered in WInchester, VA Meet Elvis a very special guy! If he were a person, he would be smiling all the time. Hs little puggie tail wags almost non-stop; he just walks around wagging!!!! This "hunka hunka pug" is a jolly, happy, active soon to be 12 year old. He was surrendered by his family due to a change in their housing situation. He is heartworm negative and up-to-date on his vaccines. Adding to his overall charm is that he came to MAPR housebroken and crate trained! That handsome face isn't all this fellow offers either; he has a gorgeous thick apricot colored coat that is quite the show stopper! He is working hard to regain his figure, and his foster parents are seeing to it that he eats a healthy, well balanced diet suitable for the "king" he is. Like the true blue pug he is, Elvis gets along with the other pugs in his foster home and even didn't seem to be bothered by the little Yorkie who came to visit. One of the lady pugs in the house is a bit bossy, and, although Elvis is a gentleman, he is no wimp, and will let her know that enough is enough. Being the vocalist he is, Elvis likes to join in when the others are barking even if he doesn't know what the heck they are barking for! Elvis' foster mom shared that at he whimpered a bit when he had to sleep in his crate, but now he happily accepts it. Elvis is a true velcro pug, too! He follows his people everywhere, smiling and wagging his tail, just in case they need cheering up. She said if she needs to close the door to the bathroom or bedroom, he will sit on the other side and softly whimper to let her know he is still there just so she doesn't worry! Elvis has many more heatlhy years to offer. His only issue is an enlarged heart which was incorrectly diagnosed in his previous life as a collapsing trachea. There is nothing at all wrong with his trachea. He takes two inexpensive meds that keep him feeling great. We feel as he continues to loose weight and regain his masculine physique, he may be able to come off all the meds, but we do NOT know this for sure. His new family hear a very occasional cough in the house as a result of the enlarged heart. This condition does not slow Elvis at all! He is a happy boy, and LOVES to be where the action is. So, "Are you lonely tonight?" Fill out an application and let this boy be your "Teddybear." We promise that he will have a "Burnin' Love" for you that is like no other. Affter all, we all know that senior pugs ROCK!!!

Frank Adoption Pending Hi there. I'm Frank, aka Dr. Frankenstien, Big Frank, whatever. How did I get these names? Well, if you look at my picture(s) you will see I am a bit bigger than the average pug. I am 31 lbs and holding. I came to my foster mom at 50lbs and was very lazy. Now, I like to go for walks on the leash, or just run around the house playing with my other puggie brothers and sisters and those toys that squeak. I had knee surgery on my back left knee. All's well now; everything is good as new, and with my weight back under control, I will have no lasting problems. So Mom says she needs to find me a great forever home. I am 6 years old and have big brown eyes, hence the name Dr. Frankenstein. Oh yes, the ladies love me! I also have dry eye and have to have drops put in my eyes twice a day (these are very, very, inexpensive). I would love for you to look me over, and if you think I'm a good fit for your house, hey, let the gals at MAPR know. They will get in touch with me. :)

Frick and Frack(Pug/Jack Russell Mix) Fostered in Knoxville, TN Hey! Our names are Frick and Frack. Mom says we are named after the pugs on the movie Hotel for Dogs. Frack has white paws and Frick is brown with black markings. Mom says we are Jugs --. Jack Russell/Pug mixes. We are 2 very spunky brothers who love to play!! We play constantly!!! We are eating our puppy food very well! We are only 8 weeks old, and we have had our first set of puppy shots and deworming. We have adjusted well to our home with our 4 pug siblings. Mom seems to think we have adjusted well to being taken from our mom earlier than we should have been and set out on the side of the road. We don't understand what she's talking about cause we are too young to understand 'adult' talk! We can be adopted seperately. If you are looking for a very spunky, playful, loving Jug baby, put one or both of our names on your application, and our mommy will get in touch with you!

Greta Hi, I'm Greta! I am a camera-shy Shar Pei (and possibly Sheba Inu) mix. I have a blond horsehair coat, golden eyes, and a docked tail. Aren't I pretty? My foster mom didn't have much luck getting me to pose for my photo shoot because I'm way more gorgeous in person! I was about to be euthanized at a shelter when a wonderful volunteer rescued me. I am a young girl -- only about 2-1/2 yrs old. I am up-to-date on all vaccinations, tested negative for heartworm, and am already spayed. Housetrained, great with children, and other animals, too!

Handsome Harley Fostered in Maryland 5 Year Old Male Jug Hello! My name is Handsome Harley. I added the "handsome" part myself because I have a very handsome underbite that can be seen in a few of my photos. I am a sweet pug mix who is 3/4 Pug and 1/4 Jack Russell. I am good in a car, crate trained, and house trained. I get along well with my foster sister and brother, but I really like to be with my foster mom. I'm so lucky that she lets me sleep in bed with her because I really like to cuddle. I won't let her out of my sight! I do have some skin allergies but so far they've been fine with some Benadryl. I will do best in a home with older children who know how to behave around dogs and not to poke or chase me around. I am healthy, happy and ready to pack my bags. Please consider opening your home and heart to me. I have a lot of love to give!!

Honey Bun Medical Hold Fostered in Maryland 10 Year Old Female **Member of the Super Senior Maryland Pug Club** 2/26/10 Update: "I'm doing great in my new foster home! I love to play and snuggle with my foster brother. I'm even learning that all other dogs aren't so bad. My foster mom took me to the dog park and I ran around like I was a puppy, playing with dogs of all sizes. I was having lots of fun, but as soon as she called me to go home I came right to her! She says I am VERY well behaved! I went to the vet a few days ago. Despite my heartworm, she says I look great! I'm getting my treatment next week, and once that's over I will be good to go! So hurry up and fill out an application for "Honey Bun" - I have lots of pug love to give! HI! My name is Honey Bun, aka Mommy, and, man, did I earn my nickname!. It looks like I was used for breeding a whole lot in my ten years on this planet before meeting the nice people at Mid Atlantic Pug Rescue. I am a bit of a feisty girl; I get along okay with some doggies, but, for the most part, I would do best as the single dog in the house. I am in good shape - just the perfect pug size - with a sweet face and eyes that look right into your soul. I'm also very obedient, crate trained, sit and stay on command, and have impecable leash manners! Truly, I am a catch, if I do say so myself!! One thing - I am heartworm positive and am in the process of undergoing the extensive treatment necessary to get rid of that pesky stuff once and for all. I am a good sport, and cooperate with my foster mommy and vet as they work hard to get me well. I can't get that other procedure (I think my foster mommy refers to it as getting "fixed") until I am fully recovered from the heartworm issue. I am almost totally potty trained, with a few "marking" incidents that are almost sure to stop once I am feeling better! The great news is that I can be adopted at any time during this procedure! Despite the challenges life has thrown at me, I have a great pug spirit. I have lots of love to give, and with that love comes lots of puggy kisses! What more could a person want? So go on and fill out an application and make sure you write down Honey Bun!! **Please consider being a pug angel for Honey Bun so that we can get her the treatment that she needs to be well**
What is a Pug Angel?
Jade Fostered in Roanoke, Virginia 1/23/10....update from foster....." Jade is doing so well. She's still pottying regularly and will go when I take her out on a leash for the night. I take her separately and just give her a little time to find the right spot. She's such a sweet, gentle gal and is the most patient of all when it comes to mealtime.
Hi! My name is Jade, and I'm a very sweet 8 year old gal. I'm in Roanoke now sharing a home with a bunch of other puggies, a peke, a peke-a-pug and even a cranky kitty! I get along very well with all of them; well, the cat simply tolerates us but the others tell me just not to pay attention to her. I eat in a room with 3 other puggies without any problem. I am a voluptuous gal so I'm cutting back on my calories; it will help me have a longer, healthier life to spend with you! Foster mum says it's important to tell you about my potty habits. I am housetrained but I don't like going potty while I'm on a leash. Foster mum is not the first person to notice this. I prefer a larger area, preferrably a fenced in area where I can mosey around and have the luxury of relieving myself in a more proper, dignified manner if you will. At first foster mum worried about me as I just didn't go potty as she thought I should. I went to the doctor and the nice doctor told foster mum that I was very healthy and my bladder was fine; it didn't hurt when she pushed in on my belly. It was determined that I just have a larger bladder capacity. But I still need to go out potty regularly! I do have severe tear stains on my beautiful face. The doctor also checked the stains out to see if it was anything more serious, and it was determined to be just severe tear stains (yes, life has dealt me some heartache). Foster mum is wiping them daily. I'm a quiet gal who likes to hang out on the cushions on back of a chair or sofa. I'm a good watchdog and have a loud bark when I see someone I don't recognize. I do startle with quick movements or loud voices/noises. A good example was I was sitting in my fave spot on the cushion on back of the chair and foster mum just moved a pillow; I flinched as if I were about to be hit. Foster mum felt so bad that she frightened me, she stopped what she was doing just to give me a kiss and a reassuring rub, and told me that the only way I'd get hit was with a kiss, and I got another kiss! So I would prefer a more peaceful, serene home without a lot of bustling activity. I'm quite the lady on the leash and enjoy walking and I have my own matching harness/leash and a nice bed that will go to my forever home with me. Just ask for Jade, take me home with you, and we'll have it made!

Julius's angels are: Sunanda Jayanth Special Needs SPECIAL NEEDS Hey! I'm Julius. Do you want the bad news first? Well, the bad news is that surgery couldn't repair my lack of control over my bladder and bowels. The good news is that I can walk almost perfectly, and I sure don't let it slow me down! I am an exuberant boy and my physical size translates over into a HUGE personality, as well! I am a loving, happy, energetic pug with a positive outlook on life. I get along well with cats and dogs of all sizes. And people? I LOVE people. I enjoy nothing more than resting my head on my foster parents while we sit on the couch and looking up at them with my worried face. If you think you can deal with my special needs (my foster mama says that with a few belly bands and a waterproof pad in my crate, I'm no trouble at all--just an extra 10 minutes twice/day!), then fill out an application and request me by name!

Kate Fostered in Roanoke, VA Hi;, my name is Kate and I am 8 and absolutely great! Foster mum says I have the prettiest, shiniest ,and softest coat. My family was moving away, and I could not go with them so I'm looking for another family of my very own. I'm a quiet girl for the most part ,but I like to watch Animal Planet and bark at the other doggies I see. I get along very well with the other poochers here except once in a while if one gets too close to me while I'm eating. I growl a little to let them know to back off. I don't pay any attention to the cat who also lives here. I enjoy hanging out on the couch, and I really enjoy sitting in foster mum's lap. I like going out in the yard, and foster mum believes I'd really enjoy walking on a leash. She says now that things are clearing up, she's going to take me for a walk! So far I haven't paid much attention to toys, but we're working on that too. Foster mum says I have to tell you that I currently wear girlie panties, which is a fancy diaper, as I will do little puddles in the house, but I'm getting better about it. Foster mum also saw me use the wee wee pad one time too. She said I did that very well. I will be spayed, microchipped, and updated on my shots on 02/25 and, after that ,I should be good to go. I will send an update about my surgery and health when I get all done. So, if you think I rate to be your first mate, get your application in and ask for Kate, but don't hesitate or it will be too late 'cuz I can't wait!

Katie Fostered in Maryland 12 Year old Female Pug
**Proud member of the Super Senior Pug Club** Katie is a sweet, wiggly little princess. She is a true lap dog and loves to be with her family at all times. She does well with other dogs and is very tolerant of cats. Katie isn't highly energetic or incredibly outgoing, but she is very friendly and loves all the attention you can give her. When she isn't snuggling or napping, she likes playing with stuffed toys or taking a short walk.
At 12, she has some hip problems, but they don't slow her down too much! She can't handle steps, but Katie does well exploring the yard on short walks or "helping" cook dinner in the kitchen. The people who surrendered Katie did not housetrain her; however, we are working with her and she is making progress already. She is also a little hard-of-hearing but stays alert by keeping an eye on people and reading their body language.
Katie is a petite little girl weighing in at around 12 lbs and also has incredibly soft fur. Once she settles in your lap, she'll cuddle for the whole evening. She wants nothing more than to be with a family who loves her! Please fill out an adoption application and ask for Katie today!

Well, here is my magical transformation.(SEE PICS) I really am a very cute boy. I have hair now. I gained weight and muscle, so now my foster mom says that it is time to start thinking about my knee surgery. In the next few weeks Mac will need to have his right knee surgery.
January 10, 2010 - New Pictures of Mac at home.
He is loving his time there and eating very well. He has attached himself to his foster mom, and will climb baby gates to be where she is!
UPDATE -- JANUARY 9, 2010
Mac has completed his treatment for mange and is now mange free! His foster mom gave him one of many nice, soaking baths the other day, his skin is now healing, and his hair is starting to grow back. Sadly, Mac now has more hurdles to overcome. Upon a thorough vet exam after both the vet and foster mom noticed Mac having difficulty walking, it was found that his rear leg patellas (knees) are basically as bad as they can get and must be corrected with surgery. Mac's vet does not want to even consider surgery for a little while to give Mac time to enjoy his time in a home, fatten up, and have time for his skin to heal. We will be doing surgery one leg at a time. Once one leg is healed, we will correct the second. He will also need a full dental. Mac, despite being in the horrbile condition he came to us in, was once a very handsome, healthy pug (we have seen pictures from former owner). We do not know what happened that allowed Mac to get in this state, but he deserves so much better. Mac's foster mom promises to get new pics to us in a week or so. Please stay tuned for further updates and pics.
PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING SPECIFICALLY FOR MAC,S SURGERY. IF YOU CHOOSE TO GIVE, BE SURE TO INDICATE ON YOUR CHECK "FOR MAC'S SURGERY" OR ON THE NOTE ON YOUR PAYPAL DONATION. NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL!
UPDATE!!! DECEMBER 24, 2009-
Mac has now made it to his second treatment for sarcoptic mange. While there doesn't look to be much improvement he is feeling better and not scratching so much. The vet says that after this second treatment we should really start to see some changes. Mac should start to have some new hair growth over the next few weeks, provided that the hair follicles have not been damaged. These pictures of Mac were taken on Christmas Eve outside of the vet's office. Mac is now able to get out of the office to use the proper bathroom facility. Mac sends a special thank you to all of his pug angels for making his treatment possible! We will continue to update everyone and take pictures of his recovery.

Maggie FOSTERED IN NORTHERN VA. 3/1/10--UPDATE!!!- MAGGIE HAS COMPLETED HER MEDICAL TREATMENTS, AND HAS DONE SO WELL, SHE IS READY FOR ADOPTION, A FULL MONTH BEFORE MAPR THOUGHT SHE WOULD BE READY. MAGGIE IS A FABULOUS PUG GIRL AND WILL MAKE SOME FAMILY VERY HAPPY.....APPLY FOR HER NOW!!! Hi everyone; I'm Maggie, and I am a little under the weather right now, but the good folks at MAPR are seeing to it that I get all better. I came to my foster family heart worm positive. I am beginning my treatments this week and am expected to make a full recovery. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a gorgeous, 19 pound silver fawn girlie girl. I am a very young 9 years old. My foster dad loves to take my picture because I am so photogenic! I am kid, cat, and dog friendly, but I have alpha tendencies when I am with other female dogs. So, if you have a house full of boy dogs or a very laid back female that doesn't mind me being the boss, I might be the pug for you! I am already spayed, and, of course, up-to-date on my vaccines. My foster parents tell me that I am VERY loving and love to sit on the back of the couch or chair you are in it and keep you company. I am not a very vocal girl, but I will cry a little when you first put me in my crate. I settle down quickly because I am such a good girl. My vision is not that great, and I do require drops in them twice a day, but I take them like a champ. I have no other physical problems and no allergies. I will be interviewing for my new family in April, but if you are interested now, fill out an application and ask for me by name.

Muffin FOSTERED NEAR WILMINGTON, NC Meet our adorable Muffin! Muffin is approximately 8 years old and was a shelter rescue. She is a tiny little imp of a pug, weighing only about 13 pounds. She gets attached to her people very quickly and will make anyone a wonderful companion. She is housebroken in her foster home, and will currently ask to go out. Her foster parent thinks she could learn a doggie door very easily. Muffin is absoulutely a lap dog and LOVES sleeping under the covers in bed!!! She is fine with other dogs, but is not a playmate. She prefers to let the others goof around and likes to observe, or ignore them all together!!! She would do well in an apartment because of her small size and quiet demeanor, but would still need to have someone let her out mid day. Because Muffin has no history from the shelter, we do believe she is a full blooded pug, however, she could also have something waaaay back in her lineage other than pug. We are not sure if her longer nose is a result of poor breeding or other genetics. One thing we are very sure of is that she is C-U-T-E!!!! Muffin has been spayed, had a dental, brought utd on her vaccines and had a benign growth removed. She is ready for her new home!!!

Omar(North Carolina) FOSTERED IN FRANKLINTON, NC UPDATE JANUARY 9, 2010 Omar and his brother Winston both had dentals yesterday. They both lost a few teeth but very well. Both boys are dreams in the house, loving to each other, and love both the canines and humans who are around them. Hi everybody! My name is Omar. I came to MAPR with my brother Winston. We are ten year old litter mates, and we need to be adopted together. Part of the reason that it is so important for us to be adopted together is that I am deaf and I take all my cues from my brother. Whatever he does, I do. Being deaf doesn’t bother me at all. In fact, I get some laughs out of it because my foster mom still talks to me, and I just look at her and her lips are moving and I'm thinking “this crazy lady -- doesn't she know I can’t hear her!" BOL! (bark out loud) Other than being deaf, I am your typically wonderful pug. I love to lie on the couch with you, and I love to follow you around. I really love a good belly rub! Although my foster mom doesn’t have any children, I came from a home that had a three- year-old, and I was good with her. I recently went to the vet and had full blood work done. I am in pretty good shape if I do say so myself! The vet said that I am heartworm negative. I will be going to have a dental done the first Friday in January, and they are going to microchip me at the same time. A couple things you need to know about me. Besides being deaf, the vet said that I may be starting to get some arthritis in my back legs, but it sure isn’t bothering me any. And the last thing is that if I over-exert myself, I will cough which the vet said is because of my narrow trachea. So no five mile walks for me, ok? Well I guess that sums me up. After my dental, I will be ready for my new forever home and I can’t wait! Please consider giving my brother Winston and me a good home. You won’t be sorry you did! **WINSTON'S BIO IS FURTHER DOWN ON THE AVAILABLE PAGE. BE SURE TO CHECK HIM OUT. .THIS IS A DYNAMIC DUO!!!

Onslow FOSTERED IN VIRGINIA BEACH, VA Hello, everyone! I’m Onslow, and no one is really sure how old I am. I might be 5 or 6, but we won’t really know until I see the vet on Feb. 13th. I hail from Onslow County North Carolina, so that’s where I get my very unique name. It took me awhile to answer to it, but I kind of like it now. Mom says the name fits me, so I guess I’ll keep it. As you can see in my pictures, I have quite the underbite. I think it gives me some character; don’t you? The teeth you see in my pictures are pretty much the only ones I have, but don’t let that fool you. I love my food, and I have no problem when it comes to eating. As a matter of fact, I can be pretty bossy when it’s meal time. If mom doesn’t fix my bowl fast enough I bark and tell her to hurry up. She ignores me until I quiet down, and then I get my bowl. I do have to sit like a nice boy before it goes on the floor though. She’s trying to teach me some manners – whatever those are. She’s sooo picky. You should also know that I have a bit of a skin allergy, but don’t you worry. I only have a few spots where my hair is still missing, and that’s starting to grow in already. Mom has me and my foster brothers and sister on a special diet, so it’s really made a difference in my hair. It’s nice and fluffy and so soft. Mom tells me all the time how handsome I am. I have to agree. I like to be right next to you all the time, but I hear that’s a pug thing. I really like my human foster sister. She’s my favorite, and if she leaves the room without taking me with her I’ll bark to let her know she forgot something. I don’t know how anyone could forget me, but she only needs to be reminded every once in awhile. I sleep in her room in my doggie bed with my woobie. It’s like an American Express card; I don’t leave home without it. I would gladly sleep in bed with her, but she doesn’t have any more room. Maybe you’ll have room? Oh, I forgot; there’s one more thing to tell you. I already had my boy surgery, and I’ll have all of my shots once I see the doc. I’m also housebroken, but I will have the occasional accident if you’re not paying attention to my signals. All I need now is a family to love me. Make sure you ask for me when you send in your application. I bet you won’t forget my name.

Peanut FOSTERED IN NORTH, VA Meet sweet Peanut. This lovely adult female was used her entire life as a breeder in a puppy mill. She is now safe in a loving foster home and living the good life!! Peanut came to us extremely underweight and malnurished. Her foster family is feeding her a high quality diet now, and she is slowly gaining weight. She is learning , too, that she doesn't have to leave half of her food for puppies. Because she was bred over and over and was never given vet care during that time, the pregnancy weight has caused one the the discs in her back to be out of line. Peanut's weight must always be monitored because of this to keep any strain off of her back. She is currently about 13 pounds, and her ideal weight for her tiny frame will be about 15 pounds. Peanut is looking for a home with NO STAIRS or one in which her family is willing to carry her up and down the steps. Peanut is a friendly , sweet girl and will do well in most homes. She is both dog and cat friendly. However, we feel that she will do best in a home with no young children or very active dogs. She adores the quiet, laid back environment. She is best described as a "companion", rather than a "playmate" for other dogs. She adores the company of other pets and her people, but should not be the rough housing type of pug. She is not in any pain, and is as acitive as she wants to be (sometimes more than her foster mom wants her to be). If you are interested in Peanut, her adoption coordinator and foster will be happy to discuss her with you. She is not a fragile little dog, just one that needs a little less hectic home. She is scheduled for her spay, and will be available as soon as she is recovered from that surgery.

Polly Adoption Pending Fostered in Nolensville, TN WEIGHT LOSS UPDATE!! WE ARE HAPPY TO REPORT THAT POLLY, WITH THE HELP OF HER FOSTER PARENTS HAS LOST 6 POUNDS AND IS QUICKLY REGAINING HER GIRLISH FIGURE!!! Hello world,;my name is Polly. I’m a VERY affectionate 4 year old pug and have been spayed. I’m in great health other than my weight, but I’m sure you have noticed that already! I’m currently on a strict diet and will need to find a forever home who will continue my daily walk. I knew I was a little big, but my foster parents can’t stop commenting on my plump figure!
I have been adopted once beforefrom MAPR but my family was no longer able to take care of me because of the economy . I then traveled to Nashville, TN to start my new journey. I have enjoyed my new pug friends and kitty. I love to be around all animals and especially love humans who will give me lots of attention. I love to be rubbed and scratched since I have trouble reaching some spots!
I’m not much on playing with toys but choose to lounge around on the couch and take nice, long naps. I know this may surprise you, but I am pretty active even though I am a little big so I will prefer a forever home who can stay active with me. Even though I have been rejected a lot in life, I’ve been told how happy-go-lucky I am. I do like to wag my tail a lot so you’ll know when I’m happy!
Please keep me in mind when you are choosing a new pug. I can’t wait to share my love of life with my forever home. Hope to see you soon!

Pudge Fostered in Roanoke, VA I'm Pudge, a 7 year old girl that just happens to be diabetic. Now - do not let that scare you away from me! Foster mum assures me that I'm easy to take care of. I get 2 shots of insulin a day and I'm a good girl when I get them because I know I'm going to get a treat afterwards! It's really no big deal - foster mum and I can show you how it's done. See - I'm a very, very sweet, gentle and loving little girl that also happens to be playful and spunky. I get along well with all the puggers and semi-puggers and even non-puggers here! Heck, I even get along with the cat - I don't mind her at all. I do go potty outside but foster mum keeps a diaper on me while I'm inside because sometimes my little bladder just can't hold it all - but the diaper sure does! I enjoy the same things all the other puggies do - going out in the yard, playing with a toy sometimes, and I always love your attention and love. So if you think you can offer a little girl like me a forever home - put in your application and ask for Pudge - I'll be here waiting for you. Foster mum will keep you updated on me!

Quincy and Isabelle's angels are: Melissa Allocco M. Allyzabethe Ramsey In honor of all the foster families who open their hearts and give our dogs a new chance at life and love Quincy (10) and Isabelle (9) are a bonded couple who are being fostered in Norfolk, VA. 11/01/09- A LETTER FROM ISABELLE AND QUINCY--- Dear Santa Pug, Pugmas will be here soon and we wanted to get our letter in early. We wanted to tell you how thankful we are for Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue and all the wonderful volunteers who are making our lives better. Thanks to the MAPR volunteers, we have folks that rescue us from shelters, get us to foster homes that are warm and cozy, and raise money to pay for our health care. We get good food to eat and even trips to the vet. We don’t really care for the vet, but we understand that we need the vet to feel better. Some of us have had a really rough start to life, coming from puppy mills, shelters or abusive homes. Some of us were given up because of a new baby. Some of us came into rescue because our humans died, lost their jobs or had to move without us. We all come from different backgrounds, but there’s one thing we all wish for- a forever home. Don’t get us wrong, we love our foster homes. They treat us like part of their family, fill our puggy bellies with good-for-us food and yummy treats. They let us sleep on their beds and couches, take us to the dog park and on walks. Our foster families are special because they can love us enough to give us up, then turn around and love more puggies. But a home that is ours forever is every puggy’s wish. A family of any size, shape, age that will love our wrinkly faces is our Pugmas wish. They will love us, no matter if we are blind, deaf, have cancer or arthritis or have potty accidents in the house. Santa Pug, a lot of us in foster care are older and maybe even sickly. We are the ones who are last to be adopted. But you got to let everyone know that we still have so much love to give to any family. When we love, it's unconditionally, no matter how old you are, how much money you make, if you're having a bad hair day or if you have more wrinkles and gray hairs than we do. So if you could, Santa Pug, please bring us all forever homes for Pugmas. We want forever homes, not just for us, but for the other puggies out there who need to come into rescue. Your friends, Isabelle and Quincy P.S. Treats are always welcome.

Rocky Medical Hold Rock is being fostered in Baltimore, Md. UPDATE FEBRUARY, 2010 ROCKY IS ON HOLD WHILE HE FINETUNES SOME OF HIS SOCIAL SKILLS. THE LOSS OF HIS FAMILY AND TRANSFER INTO RESCUE WAS AN EMOTIONAL ONE FOR THIS PUG MAN, AND HE IS SPENDING TIME WITH ONE OF OUR BEHAVIORISTS TO HELP HIM LEARN TO TRUST (AND LOVE) AGAIN. WE HAVE HIGH HOPES THAT HE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION IN THE SPRING. AT THAT TIME, HIS FOSTER HOME WILL DETERMINE THE TYPE OF HOME HE WILL DO BEST IN FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE. STAY TUNED. Rocky is a perfectly healthy, 5.5 year old male pug. He is completely up-to-date on all of his shots, is micro-chipped, and is on Frontline and Interceptor. His last check-up at the vet in May was just fine. He would really benefit from being in a home where people are around during the day. He could use a yard to run and play . His foster mom says he is such a great little fellow and is no longer protective of his food bowl. She has poured water or touched his water dish, which is right next to his food bowl, while he has been eating and there were no issues at all. Did we say he loves lots of attention? He hates being left alone and follows you around the house the whole time. Rocky has tons of energy and is very loving; He is also very smart, and loves a good belly rub and long walks. He gets really excited when people come to the door. He will bark and grab the couch cushions when he sees people outside.

Samson's angels are:
Elena Zimina- in loving memory of Yania George Sloan Alison McCollum-- In honor of rescued pug Baxter, who was also abandoned and had a mouth of bad teeth. Now 5 less teeth but absolutely worshiped in new job as best buddy! Adoption Pending Fostered in Maryland 10 Year Old Male (estimate) **Proud Member of the Super Senior Pug Club** Meet Samson! He is a 10 year old black pug who came into the rescue in late October. Samson was found in Montgomery County, MD after his previous owners tied him up to a post outside of a vet clinic. He was about 15 pounds overweight and had a mouthful of rotten teeth. We don't know anything about his life up to that point, but I can't imagine anyone who would have gotten rid of this wonderful pug! Since he came into his foster home, he has cut his weight down, and he likes to go on mile-long walks. He just loves being outside when the weather is nice. He also had a full dental job; 24 teeth extracted left him with 14 teeth. Since his mouth has healed up, he has been on a hard foods diet (I am so thankful because he is more "regular" now) and has even enjoyed chewing on some raw hides! His healthy mouth has vastly improved the quality of his life. He is visually impaired, but he isn't completely blind. We think he can see about 30% out of his right eye so he really does just fine. He lives with a rambunctious 2 year old pug and does well with other dogs. He would be suited best in a house with older children and adults since he is a senior. He has been working on his crate training and he doesn't mind being in there during the day. At night he prefers to sleep on his bed or on the sofa, and he will bark and wake you up when he as to go potty in the morning. He is a snuggler to the extreme! He loves napping on the sofa while you watch TV and will roll over on occasion to get in on those belly rubs! Samson is a handsome dog with a pretty fierce under bite, it makes him look tough but he is such a softy. Samson is looking for a mellow home for him to live out the remainder of his golden years. Please consider adopting or sponsoring 'Ol Sammy boy; he has lots of love to give to his forever home!

Scarlet Medical Hold My story is sad but true. I am only 9-10 months old and I ended up in an animal control facility. My foster mom does not know the whole story, only what was on my intake paperwork. My paperwork says that I was found as a stray with my eye already missing and I had severe hypothermia and was in acute shock. The vet at the animal control facility did what she could for me and being the fighter that I am, I made it through. No one claimed me, but my foster mom was right there to pick me up on the day of my release. When I got to my new home, my foster brothers and sister were very nice and they all wanted to check out my eye, I still had sutures in it. I was given a bath and some dinner and then I got to sit in the man's lap and take a nap. I did not have a name, so my foster dad named me Scarlet, I like it. My foster mom kept saying that I walked funny and had to pee pee a lot. I spent the next day resting and getting familiar with my new place. I do love it here! On Saturday my foster mom and dad took me to the doctor. The doctor checked me out and said that I could get my sutures out. I also had a heartworm test that was thankfully NEGATIVE. Then my doctor checked out my walking and felt of my legs, he said that something was not right and I needed X-Rays. Well, here is the part that I really am writing to all of you about, I have a crushed pelvis that is separated from my spine on the left and on the right it is broken and also separated from my spine. Some of the bones are pushing into my bladder and colon, which is why I pee pee so much. My vet says that a car must have hit me and he has no idea how I am walking and urinating and pooping on my own. My vet says that he can not do the surgery to fix me, but he know someone that can. I really need this surgery to fix me up and my vet says that I am strong and have a great spirit, so I should do well. The specialist I need to see is in Columbia, South Carolina, so my foster mom will be taking off work to take me, she must really love me and believe in me. My foster mom says that this will probably cost a lot of money, so I need everyone's help. Please send something, anything you can will go towards my surgery and get me back in the puppy game! Thank you and my foster mom will let everyone know how I am doing along the way!

Sir Charles's angels are: Erin Shahan
Being fostered in Richmond, Virginia
Hi; mMy name is Sir Charles, but my foster Moms call me Chachkie. I am an older gentleman around 7-8 years of age, but I still like to play and really enjoy going for walks. I like pretty much everybody and love meeting new people and critters. Despite my playful demeanor, I really enjoy an afternoon nap, especially if I have a cuddle buddy. In fact I like to do pretty much everything with company.
If it’s ok with you, I like to go out a few extra times a day So many bushes, so little time. So I wear a piece of clothing when I’m indoors that helps a lot with my accidents which are few. I was treated for colitis initially, but since being in foster care, I've gained 3 pounds over the last couple of months. So now I am feelling much better, healthy and fit! My foster family watches my diet and makes sure I have regular vet visits.
I really would love to settle down with someone who likes to go for walks, take naps, and just plain hang out with a little happy shadow. Sound like you? Can’t wait to meet you!

Tubby Tubby is a handsome 6-year-old neutered male being fostered in Maryland. He is very affectionate and loves to be near his people and other dogs. We feel Tubby would be best suited to a home where he will have a canine companion. He is crate-trained, housetrained, loves going for walks, and is great on the leash. He enjoys car rides and is well-behaved. Tubby cannot be placed in a home with kids because of past aggression (however, he has had no problems in his foster home). Tubby is a wonderful Pug who is looking for a family to call his own. If you think that you might be able to offer him the life he deserves, please complete an adoption application!

FOSTERED IN FRANKLINTON, NC UPDATE JANUARY 9, 2010 WINSTON AND HIS BROTHER OMAR BOTH HAD DENTALS YESTERDAY. THEY BOTH LOST A FEW TEETH, BUT DID VERY WELL. WINSTON HAS BEEN TOTALLY CONVERTED TO A DUCK AND POTATO DOG FOOD, AND WE ARE HOPEFUL THIS WILL ADDRESS HIS DIGESTIVE IISSUES. WINSTON STILL TAKES A SMALL AMOUNT OF PREDNIZONE FOR THIS AS WELL, BUT WE ARE SLOWLY WEANING HIM DOWN FROM THE DOSAGE HE WAS ORIGINALLY ON AND HOPE TO HAVE HIM OFF OF IT ALTOGETHER. BOTH BOYS ARE DREAMS IN THE HOUSE, LOVING TO EACH OTHER AND TO BOTH CANINES AND HUMANS WHO ARE AROUND THEM. Hello all! My name is Winston. I came to MAPR with my brother Omar. We are ten year old litter mates and we need to be adopted together. OK, I’ll admit it, I’m a snuggle bug! I know that isn’t very manly but it’s true. I love to snuggle up to you on the couch and if you reach over to pat me I will usually roll over and let you give me a good belly rub. When you are up and walking around I will follow you because I have to know what you are doing at all times. I mean, what happens if you drop a crumb and I’m not there to clean it up for you?! That leads me to the next thing, I am a sucker for table food but you shouldn’t give it to me. There are two reason for this, first I have a lovely figure and I don’t want to ruin it, and second is that they think I have an “intestinal issue” that I take Prednisone for (1/2 pill ever other day). The MAPR vet is having my foster mom try me on some good quality dog food (Duck & Potatoes, ummm!) and hopefully we will be able to get me off the meds completely. I have recently gone to the vet and I am in good health. I had complete blood work and everything looked good and I am heartworm negative. I do have that pesky intestinal issue where if I don’t get my meds every other day I will have runny stool. Other than that I am good. I have a growth on my paw but the vet biopsied it and it is benign and because of where it is it will not be removed. My foster mom calls it part of my charm. The first Friday in January I will be going in and getting my teeth cleaned and micro chipped. After that I am ready to go to my forever home! So if you think you might have room in your home and hearts for a couple of older gents please consider my brother Omar and me. You won’t be sorry! **NOTE -BE SURE TO LOOK AT OMAR'S BIO FURTHER UP ON THE AVAILABLE PAGE...THIS IS A DYNAMIC DUO!!

Pug Hospice
This section is dedicated to the pugs that come into rescue, but are too old or too sick to be adopted. These pugs are in "permanent foster care," and we try to give them as much love and comfort as we can for as much time as they have left. ![]()
Blossom's angels are: UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER FAMILY, OCTOBER 21, 2009: The vision in Blossom's one eye is now very minimal and she sometimesgets upset if there is fast motion in front of her..our chocolate lab and my daughters hyper little yorkie often set her off! But, we calm her down by scratching her neck, which she loves!! Her appetite is great..she doesn't let us forget her pill with cheese in the morning and 8 pm. We still hand feed her with a baby spoon because she has such a hard time with her 4 teeth..she is a very special girl. Blossom is a sweet female Pug who is estimated to be around 12 years of age. Blossom was taken to a shelter after being thrown from a car (luckily, she sustained no injuries). The kind folks at the shelter knew that Blossom would need some extra TLC due to her limited vision, limited hearing, badly infected teeth, and a large tumor on her chest. One of the shelter's employees, also an avid Pug lover, contacted MAPR to ask if we would take her in. Blossom is now safe and sound with one of MAPR's loving hospice homes where she happily spends her days snoozing underneath her foster dad's desk, following her foster Mom from room to room, and just enjoying life to the fullest. Like her namesake suggests, Blossom continues to flourish and show more confidence and personality with each passing day. A member of the elite, "One-eyed-Pug Club", Blossom mostly sees with her heart, however, her foster Mom has ensured us that this in no way impedes her ability to quickly seek out food! While the vets do feel confident that the mass on her chest is malignant (cancerous), they are hopeful that removing the tumor may very well give her a new lease on life. Blood work done this week revealed that she is well enough to undergo surgery, which has been scheduled. The vet will also perform a dental to remove her numerous infected teeth, which will improve her overall health and comfort. Though life has clearly been rough for this gentle soul, her misfortunes have in no way dampened her spirit. Prayers, positive thoughts, and love are needed to help ensure that Blossom's surgery, and subsequent recovery, are as smooth and successful as possible. Donations to help offset her care, and the care of the numerous other Pugs that MAPR is currently caring for, are always much needed and greatly appreciated. **********UPDATE 7-16-09 FROM HOME: Blossom from Dec 08 -the lab reported no cancer in the tumor or surrounding tissue. We will always be on the lookout for any new tumors. They did a soft palate repair on her...all bad teeth were removed, she has only 4 left. Our vet considers that she is 12-14 yrs old. She can now move as fast as the other pugs and her respiration is much improved. We grind her food in the blender and hand feed her with a baby spoon. She gets arthritis meds with a bite of cheese which she loves. The vision in her remaining eye seems to be lessening but she knows her way around fine. She sometimes gets in a zoned-out mode and we give her a light tap to turn on her "go" button. The highlight of her day is sitting in her foster Dad's lap if he is reading or watching TV...she adores him and cries if she sees him going out a door. He can clean her wrinkles, clean ears, clip nails or do anything for her with no resistance at all from her. She makes us laugh everyday when she does her "gimmie food" dance. She has shown us the joys of living with a senior puggie---and we just love her!

Casey Casey is being fostered in the Northern VA area. She is estimated to be between 10 and 12 years young. Approximately three weeks ago Casey lost the use of her back legs. This happened as a result from a progressive condition for which there is no cure. The good news is that Casey is not in pain and, she is too busy scooting around in her fancy new cart to worry about her back legs not working. As with any paralyzed dog, Casey is a joy to be around. You can learn a lot from these differently-abled dogs as they never feel sorry for themselves. They just 'roll' with it and continue to live each day with that true, larger than life, doggie spirit. If you think you might have room in your heart and your home for this sweet angel, please complete an adoption application. There are several of us in the MAPR family who have shared our lives with these amazing dogs and we will happily provide you with the guidance and support you need to help you provide Casey with the best life possible. Applicants should have a member of the family home during the day to allow Casey enough opportunities to potty - this is a must. Lastly, if you are looking at Casey's picture and are feeling sorry for her -- please don't! Casey is a happy gal who is loving her premium dog food, her snuggly beds, the tremendous amount of attention she receives, and just being alive and loved.

Ellie Mae's angels are: Ellie Mae came to MAPR at approximately 10 years of age. She had been used as a backyard breeder her entire life, and was still making babies at her advanced age. When she could no longer produce puppies, she was thrown away....luckily, MAPR was there to catch her. She had lived her entire live in an outside cage with no heat or air conditioning. At the time of her intake vet exam and subsequent spay, a mammary growth was detected and removed. Ellie was on her way to restored health!!! Sadly, fate has a way of changing things. Although her vet felt that all the tumor had been removed, it has returned, and is apparently very aggressive. For this reason, Ellie will remain with MAPR and her foster parents until she decides to leave this earth. She doesn't appear to be in any pain at this point, and still has a great appetite and that wonderful puggy spirit. Other than her mammary tumor, she is healthy. The risk of this type of cancer can be greatly reduced with early spaying, but Ellie was not given that chance. MAPR is thankful that she is in the loving hands of her hospice foster, and will know nothing but love. She will not want for anything. The picture of Ellie attached to this bio is of her doing her "Ellie Stare". Ellie will position herself on the sofa or wherever she can see her mom and just stare at her with those wonderful puggy eyes......that, in itself is not unusual, but what is unique is that Ellie will do this for hours....often times until she nods off to sleep. We know she adores her family and other furry siblings, but we all wonder what she could be thinking or remembering. Please consider becoming an angel for Ellie Mae. While no more vet treatment will be required, she will need pain medication and other items to keep her comfortable.

Mugsy's angels are: Fostered in Roanoke, VA Hi, my name is Mugsy. I'm 14 years young - I live life on the positive side. I was rescued from Monroe Co., Tennessee, along with many other dogs, when my former owner became unable to care for self. I now reside in Roanoke, VA, with my foster mommie (but I call her mommie), 4 resident poochies and 1 foster and a cat. I was never neutered. I also have a cyst on my left upper eyelid, a larger one on my belly and a couple others on my body and they will not be removed. My eye sight is limited and I also get cyclosporine drops in my eyes twice a day which I will receive indefinitely. I have bad teeth and was on antibiotics for a while but have since finished them. I also have severe arthritis in my back legs but I'm now getting daily joint supplements and have no problem walking, going up/down stairs. I'm also a bit hard of hearing and get disoriented sometimes when mommie calls me. When mommie took me to my initial vet visit they expressed extra concern about my health issues putting me at greater risk with anesthesia. It was ultimately decided that because of my age and multiple medical issues that I would live out my natural life in hospice care. I will not have any invasive procedures and will live out the remainder of my life as is. However, if I ever experience pain I will get the best comfort care possible. Now, don't go gettin' all weepy on me! I get around really good with a real pep in my step! I have a healthy appetite and at first would get food all over my face as my tongue hangs out all the time. I have been doing much better with getting more of the food in my belly and less on my handsome face! Mommie always wipes my face off with a baby washcloth after each meal. I get to eat in a private room as it takes me longer to eat and the others may try to get my food. Don't worry though, I'm no wimp. I'll teach those lil' youngins' to get my food! I am a friendly, gentle soul and I love to take naps, especially after breakfast. I have a certain bed that I really like. Mommie says she's going to get another like it as my lil' sis Willow likes the same bed. But we never fight over it, we take turns. I also love belly rubs and will roll over on my back so mommie can rub my belly. I've gotten pretty good at the potty thing too. Oh, once in a while I'll still have a little accident and mommie will find my little puddle in the hallway or dining room but most of the time I go outside. Everyone here has accepted me and I'm happy as a pig in mud! Sometimes, hehe, I even chase and bark at the cat! I enjoy going outside and Mommie lets me off the retractable leash in the fenced in backyard a little bit more as we go along but have it handy as sometimes I'll walk into things and the first time I walked right off the steps! Glad mommie was there to grab me - whew! I still do things for myself, just need a little help sometimes. Mommie said she was proud of me and will let me do for myself as long as I can. I even have two shirts all my own so far! Don't think I've ever had clothes before. Mommie is going to get me one of those car seats that will buckle me in so I can go fun places! I get really scared and stressed out in the crate. I like to follow mommie, when I'm not sleeping, and keep her company. I get to sleep in the big bed with the rest of the family too. Yes, life is good for me and I am a happy fellow. I'll send more pics soon!
